Bolt’s App Multiple Ride Booking Feature.
I designed a new feature that allows users to book multiple rides simultaneously within a single bolt’s app. This innovative solution will simplify the process of arranging transportation for friends and family, ensuring convenience and efficiency for Bolt’s App users.
About product
Bolt, a leading ride-hailing service, has established itself in a competitive market by offering accessible, affordable, and reliable transportation to millions globally. Its economical pricing model and extensive driver network have enabled deep penetration into urban and suburban areas. Beyond cost-effectiveness, Bolt improves lives by providing seamless booking experiences, reducing traffic congestion, and offering income opportunities for driver-partners.
As a daily user of Bolt, I appreciate its cost-effectiveness and user-friendly interface, making it my go-to ride-hailing service for all my transportation needs. A recent scenario highlighted an area for improvement in the app’s functionality.
Scenario
Last week, my friends and I went out for a dinner date. After the enjoyable evening, we were all ready to head to our separate homes. We each booked our Bolt rides, but one friend found herself in a predicament: her phone battery was dead after taking numerous pictures and videos (she’s always capturing content, lol😊). She asked another friend to book a Bolt ride for her, only to discover that they couldn’t book another ride for someone else once a ride was booked on their phone. This limitation made us realize that Bolt lacked a simultaneous multiple-ride booking function, and we all wondered why such a convenient feature had not been incorporated yet.
The goal ( impact on Bolt’s business and users)
- The goal is to enhance User satisfaction by enabling users to book multiple rides simultaneously on the Bolt’s app, it significantly improves user convenience, leading to higher customer satisfaction and loyalty.
Other business impacts include; Increased usage, Market Differentiation, Revenue Growth, and Positive Brand Image.
2. The multiple ride booking feature maintains an easy-to-use interface and delivers the best user experience without adding any complexity.
I ensured I maintained the user Interface of the latest Bolt app version CI.42.0 (142687280), making the integration and implementation of the feature seamless and user-friendly.
Design and User flow
Step 1: Opening the App and Selecting the Ride Type
- Open the App: Users start by launching the ride-sharing app on their smartphone
- Default Ride Button: On the home screen, users see a prominent button labeled “Personal Ride” set as the default option. The users can order their ride just the normal way to order a ride on the Bolt”s app.
Ordering multiple rides
- Tapping the default “Personal Ride” button reveals a dropdown menu with three options:
- Personal Ride
- Ride for a Friend
- Ride for Family
Users can select the desired ride type based on their current needs.
2. Selecting the Ride Type: After choosing an option from the dropdown menu (e.g., “Ride for a Friend”), the user clicks on the “confirm” button, and the app transitions to a new screen.
Choosing Ride Details: Users are prompted to enter specific details such as the friend’s name, pickup location, and drop-off location. This screen is designed to be user-friendly, ensuring that entering details is quick and easy.
Confirming the Ride: Once all the necessary information is filled in, users click the “Confirm” button. The ride is then booked, and users receive a confirmation message along with tracking details. The users can toggle in between the two ride details seamlessly by using the tab function “personal ride” and “Ride for a friend”
Conclusion
The introduction of the multiple ride booking feature represents a significant improvement in the ride-sharing experience. By allowing users to book rides for themselves, friends, and family from a single platform, this solution addresses a crucial need for flexibility and convenience in modern transportation. This feature not only enhances user convenience but also demonstrates a commitment to meeting the evolving needs of ride app users.
